DIY Side Table or Plant Stand For Under $5

imageI have been loving finding ways to use these little, wire baskets from the Dollar Tree. They have such a great shape and, for a dollar, provide lots of crafting fun for me! In the past I have used spray paint to transform them into adorable waste baskets for my office and guest rooms. Here’s a picture of one I painted gold to match my office area:

wpid-wp-1428521314383.jpgAfter seeing how easy they were to spray paint, I had an idea to turn them into a side table/plant stand. I’ve had this idea for a while but just honestly have not had a chance to actually make it come to life. That was the case until now! I am so excited! Since I have a  little one who is pulling up on everything I decided not to use my creation as a side table until later. It is lightweight so it would be too easy for Baby C to tip it over. So, for the time being, I found a use for my new table holding a plant on our front porch. I love the color pop it adds. Curb appeal!

*Disclaimer: This table is not super sturdy since it is so lightweight. Be sure to use it for decor in an area where it won’t be touched and pulled on, especially by little ones.

What you need:

2 waste baskets any color (white works best if you want to paint it a lighter color and black works best if you want to paint it a darker color)

1 pizza pan (Dollar Tree sells them in the perfect size)

1 Glue gun and glue stick

1 can spray paint for every color you want to use (I just used one since I made my table all the same color).

So, let’s get started. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Spray paint your waste baskets and pizza pan whatever color you want. I decided to use one color on my entire table but you could spray paint the baskets one color and the pizza pan another color to give it more interest.

image2. Once paint is dry, glue the bottoms of the baskets together. I applied a layer of glue around the outer circle of one basket and then held the two bottoms together until the glue dried. I then went in added more glue around the outer edge where the two bottoms met to make sure my table was well glued together.

image3. Next, attached your pizza pan to one of the open ends of the basket. Doesn’t matter which side, but I would check and see if one side is more stable than the other. I used the same technique I used to attach the baskets together. Simply add a ring of glue around the top of the waste basket, attach the pizza pan, and then go in and add an extra ring of glue around where the basket touches the pan.
